NORTH
WOODS CONSERVANCY
Nicole Bloom, 23, newly graduated from Michigan Tech with double degrees in Environmental Engineering and Biology, lost her life in a tragic accident in June 2003 when a storm moved in during her solo ascent of 12,804’ Middle Teton near Jackson, Wyoming. By all accounts, Nicole was what any parent, friend, or community could hope for: loving, loyal, involved, passionate, joyous, and committed to improving the world. For example, Nicole was very active in SAVE (Students Against Violating the Environment), she helped establish an Environmental Sustainability Committee(ESC) and Earth Week Activities at MTU, and she worked to protect natural lands in the Keweenaw. Nicole also recently shaved her head and donated her thick brown hair to cancer patients. The earth has lost a champion. She will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, Nicole’s family asks that her memory be honored with a charitable donation, particularly in support of the NWC Seven Mile Point project. Donations in Nicole's name can be sent to NWC, PO Box 124, Calumet, MI 49913. or via Join Us!
